O filme brasileiro Democracia em vertigem, assinado pela diretora Petra Costa, foi indicado ao Oscar 2020 na categoria Melhor Documentário. É a única produção do país na maior premiação do cinema mundial. O anúncio foi feito nesta segunda-feira (13). Ao lado dele concorrem os filmes Indústria americana (produzido por Michelle e Barack Obama), The cave, For Sama e Honeyland. A cerimônia de premiação será realizada no dia 9 de fevereiro, e Los Angeles.

Democracia em vertigem é um olhar sobre o processo de impeachment sofrido pela ex-presidente Dilma Rousseff, em 2016. O longa lança luz sobre a polarização brasileira entre esquerda e direita, muito embora seja enviesado, e considera a fragilidade da democracia com relação ao processo político enfrentado pela ex-presidente.

Lançado em janeiro de 2019 no Festival de Sundance e disponibilizado pela Neflix no meio do ano, o documentário já foi indicado a outras premiações: Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, Gotham Awards e IDA Documentary Awards.
